Stage N1

 

1. Score in accordance with the following definitions

 

Slow eye movements(SEM): Conjugate, reasonably regular, sinusoidal eye movement with an initial deflection that usually laste >500 msec.  Slow eye movements may be seen during eyes wake and stage N1. Low-amplitude, mixed-frequency (LAMF): Low-amplitude EEG activity that is predominantly 4-7Hz.

   

Vertex sharp waves (V waves):Sharply contoured waves with duration <0.5 seconds(as measured at the base of the wave). maximal over the central region, and distinguishable from the background activity. They are most often seen during transition to stage N1 sleep but can occur in either stage N1 or N2 sleep. These waveforms typically first appear at 4-6 months post-term.

Sleep onset: The start of the first epoch scored as any stage other than stage W. In most individuals this will usually be the first epoch of stage N1.

 

1. Sleep stage N1은 다음의 정의에 따라 scoring 할 수 있다.

Slow eye movement(SEM)로 일반적으로 안전도(EOG) 파형의 초기 편향의 시작점부터 그 파형의 정점까지의 duration이 500 msec(0.5초) 이상의 느리고 규칙적인 눈의 움직임이다. 느린 눈 움직임은 수면의 각성단계와 sleep stage N1단계에서 나타날 수 있다. 수면 1단계는 저진폭혼합주파수의 4-7Hz의 뇌파활동이 보인다(LAMF). 

 

Vertex sharp waves는 duration이 0.5초 미만인 날카로운 윤곽의 파동이다. Central에서 우세하게 나타나며 bacground activity와 구별이 가능하다. 대부분 sleep stage N1에서 나타나지만 stage N1 또는 N2 단계의 수면에서도 발생할 수 있다. 이런 파형은 생후 4-6개월 후 나타날 수 있다.

 

Sleep onset은 sleep stage W가 아닌 그 외의 다른 단계로 판독되는 첫 번째 epoch의 시작으로 일반적으로는 sleep stage N1이 시작된 첫 번째 epoch를 말한다. 

 

2. In individuals who generate a posterior dominant rhythm(alpha rhythm), score stage N1 if the posterior dominant rhythm (alpha rhythm) is attenuated and replaced by low-amplitude, mixed frequency activity for more than 50% of the epoch.

 

2. 후두부 우세리듬인 PDR이 감소되고 저진폭 혼합주파수의 뇌파인 LAMF가 1 epoch에서 50% 이상 즉 15초 이상인 경우를 sleep stage N1으로 판독한다.

 

3. In individuals who do not generate a posterior dominant rhythm(alpha rhythm), score stage N1 commencing with the earliest of any of the following phenomena

a.EEG activity in range of 4-7Hz with slowing of background frequencies by ≥1 Hz from those of stage W

b.Vertex sharp waves

c.Slow eye movements

 

3. PDR이 나타나지 않는 개인의 경우 N1이 시작되는 시점을 다음 중 가장 첫 번째로 발생한 시점으로 판독한다.

a. 4-7 Hz 범위의 EEG activity가 나타나고 background 주파수가 stage W보다 1Hz 이상 느려지는 현상이 나타나는 경우

b. Vertex sharp wave가 있을 때

c. Slow eye movement가 있을 때

 

4. An epoch is scored as stage N1 if the majority of the epoch meets the criteria for stage N1 (EEG showing LAMF activity) in the absence of evidence for another sleep stage. Subsequent epochs with an EEG showing LAMF activity are scored as stage N1 until there is evidence for another sleep stage (usually stage W, stage N2 or stage R.

 

4. stage N1은 하나의 epoch에서 N1의 기준을 만족하는 경우에 해당한다. 여기서 N1 기준은 EEG에서 LAMF가 50% 이상인경우이며 만일 하나의 epoch에서 N1의 기준을 만족하면 N1으로 판독하고 그 이후에 N1을 시사하는 LAMF가 계속 보일 경우 역시 N1으로 판독한다. 하지만 다른 수면단계의 증거가 나타난다면 그때부터는 다른 단계로 판독한다. (stage W, stage N2, stage R)

단 에폭의 어느 위치부터 다른 수면단계가 존재하는가에 따라 수면 단계는 다르게 scoring 된다. 즉 하나의 epoch에서 더 많은 sleep stage를 차지하는 수면단계로 scoring 한다.
